Why do you choose to send your puppies home with Breedsecure’s trial policies?

I believe every one of our puppies deserves the best health care that can be provided. When an accident, injury or health concern comes up, you don't want families to have to decide between putting their kids through school, food on the table or reasonable pet care. This way they can access the programs made available and make a smart choice about what works for them

Can you tell us the story of how you began breeding?

I began as a breeder almost 40 years ago just out of high school and working as a vet tech at a large practice in Pennsylvania. One of our clients had the most beautiful springer spaniels and I was smitten with the size, coat, brains and most importantly temperament that suited me perfectly. She provided me with my first Springer and I haven't looked back. I have also bred, Cocker Spaniels, Lhasa Apsos and for the past 24 years Mini Wire Dachshunds.

What makes you most proud of your breeding program/kennel?

I am proud of the fact that we provide healthy, sane, beautiful companions that are some of the best in the world and every day we work to do even better. The time and effort spent with the puppies and conditioning them for their transition into their new homes is always appreciated. So many families have come back for their second, third and one family with it's fifth companion from our breeding program. It is always great to hear from our extended families with updates, pictures and videos of their lives together and how they are enriching them.

What do you enjoy most about breeding?

I enjoy the planning and executing of the next generation of great dogs. Studying pedigrees, following breeding programs and adding to our stock those dogs who can enhance our program further. Then waiting for the day they come into the world and watching for the following weeks to see how the plan comes together. Watching moms and puppies interact and then introducing them to the big world is always fascinating.

Do you have one adoption story that stands out as your most memorable?

I think every families acquisition of a puppy is special. They fill a spot in someone's heart that could be from losing a previous companion or it could be their very first dog of their own and a huge sense of accomplishment. We have dogs that have ranked in the top of the conformation ring, obedience, rally, agility and tracking. We have dogs who work as therapy dogs and those who simply lie by their owners side and make them smile. Being able to have that bond with a dog that I created is very special and I am truly grateful for the families who we have worked with.
